Location
Description
The once illustrious Katendrecht, a peninsula situated next to the Kop van Zuid in the Rotterdam harbour, is undergoing a transition from a harbour to a high-quality urban residential area. In recent decades, the harbour companies have moved to deeper moorings closer to the sea. On the harbour sites left behind, more than 2,000 homes will be added to Katendrecht. Bouwfonds has taken the initiative, by realising the first 244 homes. Two residential towers were built on the Second Katendrecht Harbour, behind which is an area with single-family dwellings and maisonettes. The Poseidon and Neptunus residential towers stand proudly facing the wind on the Maas, a distinctive feature of the famous Rotterdam skyline. Between the residential towers lies a partially elevated public square with urban apartments on all sides and, underground, a parking garage belonging to the apartments. In contrast to the stalwart architecture of the towers, the architecture of the single-family dwellings blends with the original buildings in the former sailor's neighbourhood. Sheltered from the urban activity, the new district borders on the authentic residential enclave - the 'village'- of Katendrecht. As such, it forms a quiet residential area on the banks of the River Maas, attracting buyers with average and higher incomes, from outside and inside Rotterdam, to this part of the city.
