Urban development plan

Before development of the expansion district, Berggierslanden, the house market in Meppel was dead or dying. For years, there had been no construction in the city. Berggierslanden meets the huge demand for more spacious homes in a variety of types. Realisation of the district is the responsibility of the Berggierslanden Development Company, of which Bouwfonds is the sole shareholder. The development company looks after total land development. Property development is divided among various parties, including Bouwfonds. The urban development and programme preconditions were established in close cooperation with the municipality. The new district of more than 1,000 homes, with its countryside and spacious planning, fits in nicely with the surrounding green space. An ecological zone forms a transition area between the district and the nature preserve, De Oeverlanden. A unique feature of the district is the large variation in building styles and housing types. Demand from discriminating consumers is central part of this. Realisation is divided into six stages, whereby the development time of the sectional plans is kept short. In this way, the supply of housing remains table but gradual, while quality remains high.
