Location
Description
With Haverleij, Bouwfonds developed a daring, highly praised new residential concept that combined compact construction with an expansive green environment. Haverleij means living in the exclusive ambience of a modern country estate, where nine modern castles and Haverleij Slot were designed by a selection of internationally renowned architects. The castles each contain 50 to 90 homes, which are free standing in the landscape. In the 225-hectare area northwest of 's-Hertogenbosch, directly on the River Maas, a total of 1,050 homes and apartments are being built.
Bouwfonds is responsible for the development in cooperation with the municipality of Den Bosch and Heijmans Vastgoed. Besides 450 homes, the Slot provides space and facilities for the neighbourhood, including a primary school and a day nursery. With its artery of streets, squares and enclosed courts, the Slot reminds one of a fortress city.
Haverleij was built within the contours of the former Island of the Angels, whereby the original dikes mark the boundaries of the district. Besides the woods and park, there are also a wetlands nature preserve, water gardens and an 18-hole golf course as part of the green area. Only 10 percent of the area will undergo development. Green space is by far the dominant feature of the surface area in Haverleij.
